I am not 65 but my grandma is and my aunt wants her to go on the south beach diet with her. She is not only 65 but has heart problems, Lupus, and recently got over cervical cancer (thank god). My mom, other aunt, and myself are strictly against it and we want her to see a nutritionist or her doctor if she wants to eat healthy. Does everyone agree with me that she shouldn't go on it?? Or do you think she should?
Thanks :]
She should not go on it! That diet is REALLY unhealthy. Getting a nutritionist would be a good idea.
south beach actually encourages you to eat healthier, and is more of a lifestyle than a diet. I agree that you should consult a doctor because of her health complications. good luck.
i dont think these pre packaged diets are nutritional enough for someone with specific medical concerns.
maybe she can eat some of the things they sell like snack bars for a healthy snack.
but for someone with heart issues she should really be eating as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible.
things low in fats and cholesterol.
green leafy vegetables (shown to reduce cancer risks)
garlic (lowers cholesterol)
bananas(for blood pressure) & mushrooms (high potassium)
whole grains (fiber) bran
fish salmon oliveoil (good cholesterol)
oranges
yogurt
That diet is a scam. Ugh. He promotes the use of poisonous Splenda, and carbs are what feed the brain. Low carb=depression.
I say that she needs to follow a healthful diet, not go and do some maniacal diet.
Good luck.
Because of her health issues it is important that a certified nutritionist is consulted to help with planning a proper and healthy diet.
