Suggested Viewing for Korean Movies

High drama is not the only thing that Korean movies depict well; though it is right up there at the top of my list. Korean movies that have been suggested to me by fans of the same run the gamut.

Seen Any Good (Korean) Movies Lately?

Upon viewing Korea’s Sad Movie one fan expressed the realization that even the simplest pleasures and experiences of everyday life are movie worthy. That same viewer particularly enjoyed the flow of the inspiring Korean movie Wonderful Life. In the movie, a child with leukemia slowly but steadily works his way into your heart. Frequently in Korean movies the actors manage to maintain dignity even in the face of devastation. The crying and wailing that you see in some productions is toned down to an acceptable level. Reportedly, the singing in Korean movies is exceptional; as are the soundtracks that accompany them. They seem to have an almost addicting quality. In some way shape or form many Korean movie enthusiasts find them inspiring. Other Korean movie aficionados’ favorites include: Memories of Murder; Old Boy and Heartly Paws.

Does Banned Mean Better

Just a quick mention of what movies Korea apparently considers unworthy. Banned in North Korea are the following movies: · 491-due to homosexual overtones (censored version released) · The Texas Chainsaw Massacre-banned in 1974 but released since · Suspiria-and from 1977 until 2003, since released · Friday the 13th-violence, torture and cruelty (censored version released) · Monty Python’s Life of Brian-offense of religious jokes, released after 1980 · Cannibal Holocaust-animal cruelty (censored version released) · Robocop 2-violence · Kite-child pornography and violence (censored version released) · Ichi the Killer-cruelty and violence Clearly, Korea feels that their movies are low impact when it comes to violence or cruelty compared to the hedonistic American movies that they have banned.

The Umbrella; Not Just for Rain

The umbrella, of course, is best known and utilized as a cover against the rain. While many consider it more of a nuisance to lug around, when they need it, they’re quite happy they brought it along. The good thing about using the umbrella just for protection from the sun, is that it allows the user to be a little more fashionable, as in the case of a frilly parasol. Mario's first big splash into people's homes came in very crude form, digitally speaking, as a Donkey Kong game cartridge for the venerable Atari 2600. As the company was propelled forward by its profits, Mario kept evolving, and so did the entire video game platform.

With competition from Playstation and Xbox, Nintendo brought out the Wii, and the aim of gaming was largely retrained toward the adult market. While Playstation and Xbox are purveyors of age-restricted games, there are few things that can entertain a party better than the Wii version of Mario Kart. The tracks are spectacular, the characters are brilliant, the action is intense, and nobody gets busted for drunk driving.
